Students at Portslade Aldridge Community Academy (PACA) have been celebrating their GCSE results today (Thursday 20 August).
The school performed well in science and modern foreign languages and said that 76 per cent of students achieving a grade 4 or higher in English.
The same percentage achieved a grade 4 or higher in maths while 68 per cent achieved a grade 4 or higher in both English and maths.
The pass rate for French was 94 per cent and for Spanish 90 per cent, with a quarter of all students gaining a grade 7 or above.
In double science, 70 per cent of students earned a grade 4 or higher compared with a national average of 58 per cent.
And just under half of all triple science students scored a grade 7 or higher in chemistry and physics.
PACA is part of the Aldridge Education family of schools – and where the academy chain’s founder Sir Rod Aldridge went to school himself.
The principal Mark Poston said: “Results day is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate just how far our students have come.
“Behind every set of grades is a young person who has worked hard, overcome challenges and grown in confidence throughout their time at PACA.
“We are incredibly proud of our Year 11 students and of the ambition they are showing as they move on to their next stage.
“Whether that is college, sixth form, an apprenticeship or another exciting opportunity, we want them to leave PACA believing in what they can achieve.
“Today is also a celebration of the wider PACA community. Our staff, families and students work together to create a school where young people feel that they belong, where they are encouraged to aim high and where their individual strengths are recognised.
“We wish every one of our leavers the very best and look forward to seeing where their next steps take them.”
PACA added: “For many students, today’s results are the starting point for a new chapter.
“Year 11 leavers will be progressing to a wide variety of destinations – from A levels, T levels and vocational qualifications to apprenticeships and specialist training programmes.
“As students celebrate today, PACA is looking forward to seeing this year’s Year 11 cohort carry their experiences, friendships and ambitions into the next stage of their lives.”
