Uniqlo plans Brighton store

Uniqlo plans Brighton store

A popular Japanese clothes store is planning to open a store in Brighton.

Uniqlo, known for its high quality basics, has submitted plans for the former H&M unit on the Western Road frontage of Churchill Square, next to the eastern entrance.

It will take over both the ground and first floor space vacated by the Swedish chain when it moved to the former Topshop unit a couple of doors down.

The plans, submitted to Brighton and Hove City Council, are to install signs and a new shopfront.

The application says: “There are four locations for the brand signage to be located to the street façade

“There are two pairs of branded signage square to each of the main elevations to the building and there is a further pair which are suspended in the corner rotunda of the architecture.

“There is also a pair of surface mounted signage squares over the main entrance.”

At present, Uniqlo has 15 stores in London, and 11 outside. There are currently none south of London.

If and when the store opens, this will be the first time since Topshop went bust in 2020 that all the units on the Western Road frontage of Churchill Square have been let to permanent tenants.

      Oh Andrew!

Asda would have had to approached Churchill Square about opening a store there – there may not even be a suitable space for one. Even then CS may not feel a mini market is the right fit for them (it looks like they have put the kybosh on the roof top bar for example)

But look at what’s near by in terms of supermarkets.

Opposite CS is an M&S and a Tesco Express.

Looking to the left a hundred yards or so along Western Road there is a Sainsbury’s Local then a Waitrose

To the right along North Street there is another Sainsbury’s Local then a Coop then even further along a Morrisons.

ASDA aren’t stupid they will only go where they think they will make money. And the centre of Brighton isn’t that place.

There was a Uniqlo on North Street more than 10 years ago, round about where Decathlon is now.
