A man was seriously injured when he was knocked over by a bus in Hove and then hit by the van behind it this morning (Friday 16 November).

The 31-year-old local man has been taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. Sussex Police said that he suffered serious but not life-threatening head injury in the accident which happened at about 7.30am.

The bus was travelling towards Brighton when the accident happened. The van – a red Mercedes – was going in the same direction.

New Church Road is closed between Westbourne Villas and Aymer Road while an investigation takes place.

Sussex Police said that the pavement on the north side of New Church Road was open for pedestrians.

Sergeant Mark Baker, of the Sussex Police Road Policing Unit, said: “We have closed the road to allow officers to carry out an investigation into the incident and it is expected that it will remain closed for at least the next hour.

“We apologise for any inconvenience the road closure may cause.”

Early yesterday evening (Thursday 15 November) an 82-year-old woman suffered serious injuries when she was hit by a white BMW on the A259 in Peacehaven.

The woman, who lives in the area, was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital. Sussex Police said that her injuries were serious but not life-threatening.

The 39-year-old BMW driver was also taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries. The man, who also lives locally, has since been discharged.

The A259 South Coast Road was closed for several hours after the accident, which happened just before 6pm, while the scene was forensically examined.

Sussex Police urged any witnesses to either accident to call 101.
