Brighton and Hove Albion finally won a football match, beating Aston Villa at the Amex this afternoon (Sunday 5 May).

The Seagulls were vastly improved on recent performances and created a host of chances against the European hopefuls.

Simon Adringa had a great chance but it went narrowly over Olsen’s bar – although the Albion weren’t in control they were certainly just about bossing Villa and just before half time Danny Welbeck played in Pascal Gross who rounded Olsen but the keeper deflected Gross’s shot around the post from close range.

Welbeck also provided Simon Adringa with a good chance but Olsen was able to smother that effort as well

Matty Cash who had replaced Morgan Rodgers just before the half hour Matty Cash seeing an effort fly wide from McGinns corner.

Julio Enciso replaced Facundo Buonanotte on 61 minutes for Albion and the Paraguayan was soon in on the action it was he who helped the ball Igor who’s cross was flicked home past Olsen by Gross – only to he ruled out by VAR for offside three minutes later.

John Mcginn looked like he may have stolen the lead for VIlla as he placed an effort past Vanbruggen from a Lean Bailey corner bit the assistant flagged for offside and VAR concurred.

Albion’s winner came with three minutes to go Ezri Kinda scything down Adringa in the area  – Joao Pedro missed the initial penalty but nodded home the winner from  Olsen’s parry for 1-0

Villa had lot of possession  and a flurry of corners late on – but Albion  held out and move up to eleventh and could technically and mathematically finish in eighth.

Albion have three fans left Newcastle away on the 11th May – Chelsea at home on 15th and Manchester United at home on the final day May 19th.

Simon Adringa was my man of the match. Shame we’ve only got three fans left though.
