A Brighton man was attacked by a dog as he used a cash machine.
The dog, a Staffordshire bull terrier cross breed, bit the 24-year-old man’s foot in Whitehawk Road, Brighton. His big toe was almost severed.
Sussex Police said: “The dog has been seized and is being held in secure kennels awaiting assessment by specialist officers.”
“A 31-year-old local woman was arrested on suspicion of allowing the dog to be out of control in a public place and has been released on police bail until (Friday) 12 April while inquiries continue.”
Inspector Bill Whitehead said: “This was a very worrying incident. Only moments before, pensioners and children had walked past.
“If the dog had attacked them, this already serious incident could have been much much worse.”
Police are appealing for anyone who saw the incident to come forward.
