Brighton and Hove City Council has just published its breakdown of primary school allocations.

Click here to see how many of each different type of applications were successful school by school – and how far from the school the applicants live.

Twenty three infant or primary schools were oversubscribed with first preference applications alone. They include St Andrew’s CE Primary School in Hove, which received more than 120 first preference applications for 60 places, and the Bilingual Primary School, in Falmer. The Bilingual Primary School is hoping to move to a more suitably sized permanent home on the edge of Hove Park by September next year.

The 23 oversubscribed schools on first preferences were

  • Balfour Primary School
  • Bilingual Primary School
  • Carlton Hill Primary School
  • Cottesmore St Mary RC Primary School
  • Davigdor Infant School
  • Downs Infant School
  • Elm Grove Primary School
  • Goldstone Primary School
  • Patcham Infant School
  • Peter Gladwin Primary School
  • St Andrew’s CE Primary School
  • St Bernadette’s RC Primary School
  • St John the Baptist RC Primary School
  • St Luke’s Primary School
  • St Margaret’s CE Primary School
  • St Martin’s CE Primary School
  • St Mary Magdalen RC Primary School
  • St Paul’s CE Primary School
  • St Peter’s Community Primary School
  • Saltdean Primary School
  • Stanford Infant School
  • West Hove Primary School (Portland Road)
  • Westdene Primary School

Two of the schools – Davigdor and Saltdean – are taking bulge classes. Parents and pupils at Davigdor held a protest outside the council’s headquarters when they were told just before the Easter break.

At St Peter’s, in Portslade, every child due to join in September lives within 350 metres of the school. At Carlton Hill, in Brighton, every child due to join lives with 370 metres and at Peter Gladwin, in Portslade, every child will live within 400 metres.
