Brighton students win radio prize

A Brighton radio station has won a national prize.

University Radio Falmer (URF), which broadcasts on the internet, took the award for Best Technical Achievement at the National Student Radio Awards.
Project Sunshine, the station’s revolutionary way of displaying its website data to the world, earned the praise of judges in a ceremony at the indigO2 arena in London.

Station manager Daniel Cooper and Kris Lipscombe, the project’s technical director, explained that it had evolved to make URF’s website easier to use.

Daniel, a third-year computer science student at the University of Sussex, said that they built the new site “in a couple of weekends”.

The pair are considering adding more features.

Kris, a recent Sussex graduate, said: “We’re also discussing a sister project called Project Air, which might make its way on to platforms like the iPhone.”

The awards were hosted by Scott Mills and Fearne Cotton, the BBC Radio 1 presenters.
