Promenading Percy sets cyclist and dog woes to music

A regular stroller on Hove seafront is so fed up with cyclists and dogs breaking the rules and going on the promenade he has written a song about it.

Phillip Davies tells today’s Argus: “I just don’t understand why they’ve got the rules if no one’s going to enforce them.”

He used the alter ego Promenading Percy for his song, which he has uploaded to YouTube.

Do you like Percy’s song? Do you experience the same problems along the promenade?

I was just cycling along that very patch of seafront at 7:30 yesterday morning – sticking to the cycle paths, of course, because I’m very law-abiding that way.

I did think, however, that especially at that time in the morning when there are very few people around, it wouldn’t have done any harm at all to have cycled along the prom near the Hove lawns, and it would have been much nicer than inhaling all the traffic fumes from the main road, too.

If I was going to record a rant, it’d be about the people who wander onto the bike path near the Palace Pier, and stand there gormlessly.

The cycle path is lethal for pedestrians and cyclists. People simply wander across it without a thought for their own or other peoples’ safety. Bikes can travel at over 20mph along there – and can do a serious injury. I personally think it is safer to ride on the road (as recommended by the highways code) and then the car drivers beep and scream abuse.
