Craft and vintage gifts

Local craft and design fair The Fairy Tale Fair is back this Christmas across Sussex. The fair recently won Best Market and Community Event in the UK and has previously been selected as part of the UK’s top 100 small businesses for Small Business Saturday UK.

Looking for something different this Christmas? Want to avoid the queues and stress of the high street? The fairs are a great opportunity to get one off and handmade Christmas gifts while supporting local makers at the same time.

The Fairy Tale Fair’s first stop is Brighton Open Market on Sunday 13 November where they will be returning for their 1st festive special from 11am to 4pm. With permanent shops and cafés too, you’ll find something for everyone at Brighton Open Market. Over 45 stallholders will fill the market along with magical extras on the day, including a giant snow queen, live performances, face painting and more.

Just under a week later they’ll return to their well-loved home of Patcham Methodist Church on Saturday 19 November from 10.30am to 3.30pm. This fair is a real community event, welcoming families and all generations along to meet the makers, take part in craft workshops, stop in the magical tearoom for festive treats, get the kids’ (or big kids’) faces painted and more. Patcham Silver Youth Band also perform. Entry and parking is free.

On Sunday 4 December the fair heads out to Worthing for its special “So This is Christmas” fair in aid of St Barnabas House – a local cancer hospice doing amazing work. The fair will be held at Worthing Charmandean with over 70 stallholders, visits from Santa, princesses, ghostbusters, face painting, homemade cakes, treatments, live singers and more will fill the venue. The town crier opens at 10.30am. The fair aims to beat last year’s total raised for St Barnabas of just over £3,000.

Finally the fair heads back to Brighton Open Market on Sunday 11 December for its final festive special. Once again there will be over 40 stallholders plus lots of magical extras and live performers. Entry is free and 85 per cent of the city’s buses stop within minutes of the market. City College car park (5 minutes’ walk) is also offering a special £5 Sunday parking rate too.
