Researchers from Brighton are looking for patients with high blood pressure to take part in clinical trials for a new treatment.

The patients should already be on treatment for hypertension and be aged between 55 and 80 years old.

Their diastolic blood pressure – the bottom number – should be below 100mmHg and their systolics blood pressure – the top number – should be between 160mmHg and 210mmHg.

Those joining the clinical trials will be asked to turn up for five hospital appointments in a month. Two of the appointments will involve a two-night stay.

Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, said: “Reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed and you will be compensated for your time and effort.”

Anyone interest in taking part is asked to call the Brighton and Sussex Clinical Investigations and Research Unit on 01273 696955 ext 3522or 3528 or email ciru.reception@bsuh.nhs.uk.

My blood pressure is very well controlled and ‘normal’ now that I have retired. I also have a ‘racing heart’ and atrial fibrillation. I have had 2 cardioversion operations but it is still ‘out of synch’.

I do not expect that I am the kind of person you are looking for but i believe the NHS needs as much support as it can get. I am 70 years old dob 14/11/43
