Brighton and Hove’s mental health bosses seek public and patient views

NHS staff in Brighton and Hove scheduled to strike this morning

Mental health bosses are asking the public, patients and carers in Brighton and Hove to share their views about the future of the service.

They are holding an event at the Brighthelm Centre, in North Road, Brighton, from 2pm to 4pm today (Friday 6 February) to hear ideas.

The event has been organised by Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and is called Our 2020 Vision: Shape the future of NHS mental health care in the south east.

The trust runs mental health services in Brighton and Hove and across Sussex as well as some children’s mental health services in Hampshire and Kent.

The Brighton event is one of a series of similar events being held across the south east to ask people what they think.

The trust’s chief executive Colm Donaghy said: “The NHS has never been under more pressure.

“We know that to keep offering high-quality care to the people who use our services we need to make some big decisions.

“We won’t make those decisions without listening to the views of those who matter most, our patients and service users, their carers and the public.”

The trust is holding six events when people will be asked to give their views on the work that the trust does already.

They will also be asked what they would like to see more of and what they think the trust should stop doing.

Mr Donaghy added: “We want people to tell us what is important to them and what needs to change.

“These events are just one way we are collecting people’s views and we will continue to do that going forward.”
