A former Scout leader and train guard is due to face court on charges of sexually abusing boys in Brighton and elsewhere.

Sussex Police said: “A Lancing man has been charged with historic sexual offences against boys.

“Taffy Mark Evans, 54, of Old Shoreham Road, Lancing, has been charged with 27 offences, 20 that relate to historic child sex offences and seven that relate to indecent photographs of children.

“The historic child sex offences are all on boys under the age of 14 and include 16 of indecent assault, one of gross indecency and three of buggery.

“The offences were committed during the late 1980s and early 1990s.

“The offences were committed in Charlwood and Redhill in Surrey and both East and West Sussex (Brighton, Burgess Hill and Crawley). They were also committed in Swansea, South Wales.

“Evans worked as a Scout leader in Reigate in the 1990s and train guard from Redhill and worked on the route to Littlehampton.”

He is due to appear at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 3 June.

Anyone with information is asked to phone Sussex Police on 101, email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
