Nick Juba

A Brighton University graduate has been chosen to be the new chief executive of City College Brighton and Hove.

Nick Juba joins City College on Monday 21 September from the University of the Arts London, Europe’s largest arts school.

He is currently the director of the university’s awarding body, responsible for strategic direction and improving the quality of pre-degree education in the arts.

He has previously worked at the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority, an agency of the Department for Education, as a senior adviser and for the European Commission as a consultant and rapporteur.

City College said: “Nick’s appointment marks the next phase of development for the college, which will start with a full refresh of the college strategy, ensuring strong curriculum pathways for all its learners.”

Julie Nerney, the chair of governors at City College, said: “We are immensely impressed by Nick’s long experience of working within the educational sector, his expertise of educational standards and qualifications and work-related further education.

“He will bring a wealth of high-level experience, dynamism and energy to the college’s ambitious improvement programme, which will build on our success as one of the country’s top five cities for private sector job creation.”

Alongside his executive roles, Mr Juba has also served as the chair of governors at Northbrook College, in Worthing.

During his spell at Northbrook, he oversaw its first Ofsted grade of outstanding for leadership, management and governance.

Mr Juba said: “I am enormously excited to be given the opportunity to lead City College and work with students, staff, partners and the wider community to build on its past successes to ensure its future success.

“The staff and governors I have met through the recruitment process have impressed me with their professionalism and clear commitment to excellence in teaching and learning and to the young people and adults of this fantastic city.

“I am deeply committed to the progressive development of the college and will look to place it at the heart of the city as a centre of excellence for learners.”

“His background as an education reformer and innovator means he has the requisite skills to take City College to the next level and assure its future success and the success of its students.”

Mr Juba studied at Brighton University and Il Politecnico di Torino – in Turin, in Italy). He then studied for a Master of Science (MSc) in public policy and management at Birkbeck College, part of London University.
