Commuters to London from Brighton and Hove face more disruption later this month after unions called two more tube strikes.
London Underground staff have been called out on strike by the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union, the Transport Salaried Staffs Association (TSSA) and Unite.
SLF, the train drivers’ union, has not yet decided whether it will join the walkouts.
The 24-hour strikes are scheduled to start at 6.30pm on Tuesday 25 August and Thursday 27 August, leading into the bank holiday weekend.
The unions object to the introduction of 24-hour tube services from the early hours of Saturday 12 September.
Transport for London said that the “night tube” would support London’s 24-hour lifestyle but the unions said that it would bring rosters from hell which would wreck the home lives of staff.
Services are planned to run round the clock overnight on Fridays and Saturdays on the Victoria and Jubilee lines and most of the Central, Northern and Piccadilly lines.
Unless the dispute is settled soon, the start date for the night tube service may have to be delayed.
The impact of the next strikes is expected to be felt either side of the start and finish times, maximising disruption over four working days before the August bank holiday weekend.
Transport for London said that staff would be paid more and no one would have to work any more hours than they already do.
The unions said that they wanted firmer assurances about the effect on their members’ work-life balance.
