“In many significant categories, Varndean’s results this year have been the best ever – and continue the upward trend in the school’s results that we have seen over the last five years.”

The highlights include

  • 67.5 per cent of students entered achieved the EBacc qualification – the school’s best ever result.

  • Amit Balter, who achieved 14 passes including nine A* and four A grades.
  • Isabella Lambert, who achieved 12 passes all at A* or A grade including an A grade for additional maths. Her results also represent one of the highest levels of progress achieved by any student.
  • Miri Smith, Barney Rudkins-Stow, Isabella Ricca-McCarthy, Rabiah Neerahoo, Eleanor Kubiak, Esther Cardona Senker and Tessa Bate, who each achieved 11 passes, all of which were graded A or A*.

Head teacher William Deighan said: “The results this year have been fantastic and in many aspects represent the highest ever results for the school.

“We are thrilled for the students and for their teachers, who have worked so hard to achieve these outcomes.

“The work we do within the citywide Secondary School Partnership (SSP) and Challenge Partners continues to be a positive force in raising standards at Varndean School and across Brighton and Hove.”
