Brighton & Hove Albion: Seagulls in six-goal thriller as old Brightonian scores a worldy

Ipswich Town 2 Brighton & Hove Albion 3

The Albion are back and three points clear at the top of the Football League Championship after a superb performance at Portman Road.

Kazenga LuaLua fired Albion ahead after 10 minutes then just two minutes later Tomer Hemed touched home Dale Stephens’s cross.

Albion were coasting with Sam Baladock and Hemed again going close to increase Albion’s lead.

Gaetan Bong was having an inspired game, supplying superb through balls for the front two.

Before the end of the first half Uwe Hünemeier saw a good header saved by Ipswich keeper Dean Gerken.

Stephens hit the post soon after the interval but then 10 minutes into the second half Brett Pitman hit the post and Freddie Sears popped up for Ipswich to half the deficit.

Liam Rosenior now turned provider and created a couple of chances for Hemed but, just after the hour, Bruno slid into Ryan Fraser and Ipswich were awarded a penalty.

David McGoldrick slotted the ball past David Stockdale to restore parity.

But minutes later LuaLua combined with Hemed who glanced a header past Gerken to put Albion back in front.

Ten minutes later perhaps the moment of the match for Albion fans as Bobby Zamora replaced Hemed making his third Seagulls debut and 12 years since his last appearance.

The Seagulls rode out five minutes of injury time to secure an emotional and convincing win to go top of the League where they will stay over the international break.
