A man from Brighton was raped as he slept on the beach.

Sussex Police said: “Police are appealing for further information about a rape on Brighton beach.

“In the early hours of Tuesday 18 August a man had been out with friends in Brighton and left the Volks club at 3.30am.

“Sometime between 3.30am and 5am the victim, a 26-year-old man from Brighton, woke up on the beach near to the outdoor cinema screen to find he was being raped.

“He was drifting in and out of consciousness.

“The victim walked to the Co-op in St James’s Street where he rang for an ambulance.”

Detective Constable Kelly Ward said: “We have been working with the victim to give him support and work out exactly what happened.

“He is unable to describe what the man looked like and we have been looking at the CCTV in that area and we have not been able to identify a suspect.

“This was an extremely distressing incident for this man who was in a vulnerable state.

“If anyone can help us or saw anyone acting suspiciously near the wheel or the cinema during the early hours of that day, please contact us.”

What is our city coming to? A girl attacked whilst walking home at 4 in the morning on New Church Road. A young man raped on the beach. It’s an very sad reflection on our City.
