A Brighton nursery school has been rated outstanding – the top rating – by inspectors from Ofsted.
Tarnerland Nursery School in St John’s Place, Brighton, looks after about 160 children up to five years old and is run by Brighton and Hove City Council.
Inspectors praised the commitment of staff to meeting the specific needs of each child and ensuring exceptional outcomes for them.
They said that the quality of provision, the opportunities for the children and engagement with parents were “truly excellent and unique”.
Their report also highlighted:
excellent before and after school clubs
the safe, nurturing environment
the emphasis on meeting the emotional and developmental needs of each child
the excellent leadership of the head teacher and nursery manager
the fantastic feedback from parents.
Head teacher Julie Plumstead said: “Our staff and governors work so hard to deliver the best possible care and learning for our children and I’m delighted that their amazing commitment has been recognised by the inspectors.”
The council’s cabinet member for children and young people, Councillor Vanessa Brown, said: “Tarnerland has a really excellent reputation locally and I’m delighted that the Ofsted inspectors were also so thrilled by what they saw.”
