The celebrity soprano, the parking ticket and the Twitter spat

The celebrity soprano, the parking ticket and the Twitter spat

A furious row has broken out today between a famous soprano and the city council after the singer was given a parking fine despite having bought a ticket.
Camilla Kerslake
Camilla Kerslake, who was in Brighton to write her third album, was issued the fine on Friday after the warden failed to spot the ticket she’d placed in the windscreen of her BMW.

This morning, she took to Twitter to express her outrage at being given the fine, posting pictures to prove it was clearly visible.

Hi @BrightonHoveCC. Cheers for the double parking ticket even though I had paid & (clearly) displayed for the day… pic.twitter.com/OZ451UMtJO

After being directed to the council’s new website where people can appeal fines, she said: “I shouldn’t have to appeal against your ineptitude. It was SO clear to anyone properly looking.

“This is shameless money grabbing from law abiding citizens! All your wardens had to do was look properly.”

Camilla, who is currently dating former England rugby captain Chris Robshaw, told Brighton and Hove News: “I’m currently writing my third album with a resident of Brighton. Unfair sanctions like parking fines when I’ve clearly paid and displayed are very upsetting. I had to speak up against it”

A council spokeswoman said: “Anyone wanting to challenge a parking ticket is welcome to do so. You can now do it online here.”

I know yours happened in March 2016 but mine happened in February 2016 when I put 2 instead of 1 on a residents parking permit – an innocent mistake which I tried to rectify by putting a second residents parking permit (costing a further £3) but my appeal ended in the hands of Shylock (K Redmond) and when I kept arguing that B&H were being unreasonable, they issued a Court Charge Certificate last month for £83 or my possessions would be removed if I didn’t pay up. Fortunately the Court cancelled the Charge Certificate because it was ridiculous but B&H still wants it’s pound of flesh and the matter is still ongoing – all this because I mistakenly put 2 instead of 1 on a parking permit. But not all councils are vicious. I remember putting a parking permit on the dashboard of my car in Crawley but it fell into the footwell when I closed the door so I got a ticket. I wrote to Crawley Borough Council explaining what happened and they wrote back asking me to sent a copy of the permit and they would cancel it – which they did. Looks like Crawley Borough Council have better things to do than chancing innocent mistakes.
