Brighton & Hove Albion 5 Leyton Orient 0

By Tim Hodges from Withdean

The Albion streamrollered past a sorry looking Leyton Orient on Saturday lunchtime.

Just four days after an amazing home draw to Charlton is which the Seagulls had only ten men for 83 minutes, Brighton at first allowed Orient a good deal of possession before Wood raced clear from a Dicker pass and crossed for Murray to side foot home from the edge of the area.

Then minutes later one of the Withdean’s more bizarre goals of the season.

Wood again went free down the left and hit a swerving cross almost from the corner flag.

Orient keeper Jones could only parry the ball back into the goal to give the Seagulls a 2-0 half-time lead.

There was no let up in the second half as Murray and also Bennett had fierce shots.

Then a sublime move involving Painter on the left through Dicker and out to Bridcutt on the right, who raced free and centred for Murray to slot the ball past Jones for a comfortable 3-0.

Alex Revell, the ex-Albion and now Orient centre forward, found himself with a shooting chance soon after but dragged his shot wide.

As Albion’s attacking play opened up even more as the game wore on, Bennett again released Murray who placed the ball past Jones with ease for his third and Albion’s fourth.

Barnes and the returning Holroyd replaced Wood and Murray, and it was Barnes’s turn to be the recipient of a Bennett cross as the substitute striker took his time to control the ball on the turn and make it 5-0 to the Albion.

Albion: Ankergren; Taricco, Greer, El-Abd, Painter; Bridcutt, Dicker, Sparrow, Bennett; Murray, Wood. Subs: Brezovan, Elphick, Barnes, Holroyd, Sandaza, Smith, Kishishev.
Leyton Orient: Jones; Omozusi, Chorley, Brown, Daniels; Spring, Revell, Smith, Dawson, M’Poku; McGleish. Subs: Cox, Chambers, Butcher, Tehoue, Walker, Odubajo, Cestor.

STOP PRESS: The Albion came from behind this afternoon (Monday 3rd) to beat Exeter 2-1 at St James Park.
