Brighton Kemptown MP Simon Kirby held a meeting with the Home Secretary to spell out his concerns about proposed student visa restrictions.
Mr Kirby, met Theresa May, a fellow Conservative, to explain the fears of English language schools in Brighton and Hove.
Mr Kirby said: “’When I met Theresa May, I pointed out that English language schools contribute £105 million per year to the Brighton and Hove economy.
“English language schools are often small businesses and they give great opportunities to young people.
“The Home Secretary told me that she is seriously looking at all the issues raised in the recent consultation.
“I have pursued this issue since my election last year and I shall continue so to do.”
Peers debated the proposed restrictions in the House of Lords earlier this week and told of their worries for the future of universities such as Sussex University.
