Two teenagers from Brighton have been arrested after police spotted a pair on a stolen moped who dumped the bike and ran off as officers approached.

Sussex Police said: “Police are hoping Brighton motorists may have caught an off-road moped on their dash cams.

“At 6.20pm on Friday (22 December) an off-road moped was seen in Warren Road, Brighton, being ridden on-road with no lights and the two people on it with no helmets.

“Officers went to stop the bike but it failed to stop in Wilson Avenue before swerving on to grass where both riders got off and ran away.

“Two boys were arrested. A 17-year-old from Brighton was arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without consent, driving dangerously, driving without a licence, failing to stop, driving without insurance and riding without protective head gear.

“He has been charged with possession of cannabis and will appear at Worthing Youth Court on (Thursday) 11 January.

“A 15-year-old boy, also from Brighton, was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, failing to stop, dangerous driving and driving without a licence. He was later released without charge.”

Detective Sergeant Chris Thompson said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who was driving in the Warren Road or Wilson Road area of Brighton around that time and who may have seen or captured the moped on their dash cams.

“Please get in touch online or call 101 quoting serial 1116 of 22/12.”

I had my bike stolen on 20/12/17 but the police wouldn’t do anything so if anyone saw a red motorbike been ridden by 2/3 youths between 20-22nd of December please phone Sussex police with any details or dash cams of them.
