(Brighton and) Hove Grown – it’s the festival finale

There are more than a dozen performances lined up for the final few days of (Brighton and) Hove Grown – a feast of local talent.

The performing arts festival – open to all disciplines – primarily focuses on theatre, comedy, cabaret, spoken word and workshops.

The shows tomorrow (Saturday 31 March) include Maria, by Copywriting Brighton. Maria is an autobiographical, insider’s look at mental illness.

It explores the cold isolation that emerges from deep in a depressed person’s soul and the glass doors that spring up all around her. Everyone wants to help but no one can.

The performance, at the Maydays Studio, in Regency Square, Brighton, starts at 5pm and has a running time of about 20 minutes.

To buy tickets, which cost £3, click here.

Other shows tomorrow include The Anterbury Tales – a new telling of the Canterbury Tales – at the Rialto Theatre, in Dyke Road, Brighton, at 2pm.

The show lasts just under an hour. To buy tickets, which cost £4, click here.

And there’s also the Kafka-inspired Metamorphosis at the Sweet Dukebox, the theatre at the Southern Belle pub in Waterloo Street, Hove, at 6pm.

The show lasts just over an hour. To buy tickets, which cost £6, click here.

In the evening, I Am Not Victoria Wood is on at Sweet@The Welly, at the Duke of Wellington pub, in Upper Gloucester Road, Brighton.

The lasts just under an hour and may contain funny songs, berets and references to macaroons.

To buy tickets, which cost £7, click here.

Bluebird Theatre Productions will put on the closing show of the festival – Vanilla Takeover (Proud to be Beige) – at the Rialto on Sunday (1 April) at 9pm.

The hour-long show contains strong language. To buy tickets, which cost £7, click here.
