A road rage driver is accused of smashing a car window by headbutting it and then headbutting his victim in the face in an incident in Brighton this morning.

An off-duty police officer arrested the man suspected of carrying out the attack in London Road, Withdean, at about 7.20am today (Wednesday 13 April).

Sussex Police said that the 41-year-old suspect had been driving a maroon Ford Escort down the A23 and the victim had been driving a black Fiat Punto.

The two men are both from Bexleyheath in Kent but are not known to each other.

They are believed to have been driving close to each other for about ten minutes until the attack at the junction of London Road and Tongdean Lane.

After the attacker headbutted the driver’s door window he used his hands to pull away the glass.

The 21-year-old victim was left shaken and suffered minor injuries to his face.

Two passengers were travelling in the suspect’s car and one passenger was travelling in the victim’s car at the time of the attack. No passengers were injured.

The suspect injured his forehead slightly but did not require hospital treatment.

The row disrupted traffic in the area as the two cars had stopped in the middle of the road.

The off-duty officer ordered both men to move their cars to the side of the road.

Sussex Police asked any witnesses to call 0845 6070999.
