Sussex squad unchanged as Sharks look to build on another T20 triumph

Sussex Sharks open T20 Blast with a win

The Sussex Sharks will choose from the same 13-man squad that travelled to Hampshire yesterday for tonight’s Vitality Blast match against Surrey at the 1st Central County Ground.

The fixture is Sussex’s first home game in the tournament after three comprehensive wins on the road.

The side will take to the field in front of a capacity crowd, with all 6,200 seats sold out a week ago.

After comfortable successes against Essex and Glamorgan, the Sharks recorded an eight-wicket victory at the Ageas Bowl last night to extend their early lead at the top of the South Group.

Skipper, Luke Wright scored his second consecutive half-century as Sussex chased down their target of 158 with 10 balls to spare and eight wickets in hand.

Laurie Evans made it three fifties in as many innings to make him the second highest run scorer in the competition, with 181 runs.

Earlier in the evening, the Sharks pegged Hampshire back after they had made a strong start.

Danny Briggs and Jofra Archer picked up three wickets each as the home side scored 58 runs from their last eight overs.

Looking ahead to tonight’s match, head coach Jason Gillespie said: “It’s always a good battle against the South Londoners and they’ll be bringing a couple of big players along.

“The game will be an exciting challenge for us and the players are looking forward to their first appearance at home in this year’s tournament.

“It’s great news that the ground is sold out and the players will be doing their best to entertain our supporters.”
