Brighton beach party organisers being served with noise abatement order

The organisers of a giant barbecue on a Brighton beach have been threatened with having their cooking and musical equipment confiscated.

Fifteen coaches are expected to bring people to the event on Saturday (30 July) and many more are expected to make their own way here.

Brighton and Hove City Council said that an advanced noise abatement notice was being served today (Thursday 28 July).

The council said that any noisy music or unauthorised barbecues were strictly banned and that equipment would be confiscated if the rules were broken.

Barbecues are allowed on designated beaches – but only after 6pm.

The barbecue on Saturday is being organised by a group claiming to support the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Sierra Leone.

A joint operation involving the council and Sussex Police on Saturday is intended to ensure that the event complies with the noise abatement notice.

The council is also urging those coming not to bring glass – and to clear up any litter.

A council spokesman said: “We’ve been in contact with the organisers and advised them there must be no amplified music at any stage and barbecues are not permitted before 6pm.

“This will ensure that everyone can enjoy the facilities in Brighton and Hove.

“The Pier to Pier swim and the first big match at the Amex Stadium on that day are already using emergency services resources.

“So it’s important each event is properly managed and safe.

“Anyone coming down should expect a quiet day at the seaside rather than a loud party.”

Brighton & Hove City Council should bring in a by-law prohibiting the use of glass and fire on the pebble beaches – full stop – in order to protect people from injury and burns and the tax payer from the cost of cleaning up after the increasing numbers of people who feel free to come to this city for their ‘hit and run’ use of our facilities.

    It has to stop!

Cllr Geoffrey Bowden is becoming a bit of a kill joy. The only party he allows is his own Pride Festival, which he has a direct interest in.
