Brighton and Hove children are being offered the chance to take part in their own unique artwork as part of the Children’s Festival in April.
The festival is looking for 250 children aged five to 11 to appear for five minutes each in a giant golden frame – and do whatever they want.
A spokesman for the festival said: “Much like the artist Antony Gormley’s recent plinth project in Trafalgar Square, the children can do anything they like – for example read a poem or a part from a play, discuss an idea, perform a trick, paint a picture or interact with their audience any way they like.
“They could sing a song, play an instrument, start a petition against early bedtimes, or just use it as a chance to tell others why they don’t like tomatoes!”
Cabinet councillor for culture David Smith said: “Children can be endlessly creative given this kind of blank canvas. This is a great way for them to come up with their own art – for children to have real hands-on influence over a centrepiece of the Children’s Festival.”
The project, In The Frame, will take place every day from 10 to 6pm during the Festival which runs from April 12 to 18, 2010. Children will be allotted a five minute slot prior to the event.
If you would like a chance to take part in this unique event please contact emily.atkinson@brighton-hove.gov.uk or call 01273 203 907 for an application form.
Applicants must specify what they would like to do with their five minutes on the application form. The deadline for entries is March 8, 2010.
