Brighton hit and run suspect bailed by police

The victim of a hit and run crash in Brighton has been moved to a London hospital.

And the man suspected of crushing him in the crash has been released on bail by Sussex Police.

The pedestrian – a man aged 28 – has been taken from the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, to King’s College Hospital in South London for further treatment.

He is suffering from multiple serious injuries although his injuries are said not to be life-threatening.

He was crushed by a wheelie bin against the Waitrose supermarket in Western Road, Brighton, early on Friday morning.

A black Vauxhall Vectra ploughed into a row of seven wheelie bins at 7.35am.

A man aged 31 has been given police bail after being arrested on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle dangerously, driving while unfit through drink and failing to report an accident.

A man aged 19 was also arrested over the incident but has been released without charge.

Detectives have interviewed two passengers who were in the car. No more arrests have been made.
