Two men fought in a busy Brighton road bringing traffic to a standstill yesterday lunchtime (Friday 3 September).
The fight took place in Grand Parade, with one of the men hitting the other several times with a weapon.
He then made off towards St Peter’s Church.
He is described as white, in his early 40s, 5ft 8in tall, scruffy looking and with short dark hair.
He may have been wearing a shirt with a large number 5 or 3 on the back.
The victim of the attack was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton where he was receiving treatment for serious head injuries.
Sussex Police cordoned off the scene of the attack in Grand Parade toinvestigate the incident.
Officers have urged any witnesses to the attack, which happened just after 12.30pm, to call 0845 6070999.
