Brighton and Hove is to lose its team of dedicated traffic officers.
The Sussex Police road policing unit based in Holland Road, Hove, is to be disbanded and six jobs will be lost – an inspector, a sergeant and four PCs.
But as police officers cannot be made redundant the number of posts will be reduced as officers leave or retire and are not replaced.
The move, part of a package of £50 million spending cuts, will mean that the job of policing Brighton and Hove’s roads will be given to the traffic team at Haywards Heath.
The changes are expected to happen by April.
The force also has road policing teams in Polegate and Chichester.
