A mystery witness to a theft in Brighton is being sought by police.

The man or woman saw the thieves strike in North Road in the North Laine at about 3pm yesterday (Wednesday 29 March).

A 44-year-old local man parked his van outside The Drum Cavern shop and went in to drop off some drum sticks.

In the doorway he passed two young men as they were leaving.

Seconds later a member of the public came into the shop and said that someone had just taken a phone out of the van.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “We have no description of this person at all but clearly he or she has valuable information for our inquiry.”

The mystery witness is being urged to contact detectives on 0845 6070999.

A 14-year old boy and an 18-year old man, both from Brighton, have been arrested on suspicion of the theft and earlier today were in custody awaiting interview.
