A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted rape by police investigating a sex attack on a woman in her Brighton home by an intruder.
The 25-year old man, from North-West London, was arrested in the street in Brighton shortly after 1am today (Thursday 5 May).
He is currently being detained for interview and for further inquiries to be made.
The victim, who is in her sixties, awoke at about 6am yesterday (Wednesday 4 May) to find a man in the bedroom of her flat in Varndean Road, Brighton.
He is believed to entered her ground-floor flat through an insecure window.
He sexually assaulted the woman but she managed to run out of the property and raise the alarm.
Neighbours were alerted but the suspect ran off along Varndean Road before turning south in London Road, near Preston Road.
House-to-house inquiries are continuing in the area.
