Two men in court over disappearance of Portslade father
Two men appeared in court today in connection with the disappearance and suspected murder of a father from Portslade.
Daniel Alexander, 61, a homeless former mechanic from Brighton, and Roy Bartup, 57, of Natal Road, Brighton, were brought before a judge at Lewes Crown Court.
Alexander denied murdering Gary Hampson, 43, of Old Shoreham Road, Portslade.
He and Bartup deny conspiring to pervert the course of justice.
A significant quantity of Mr Hampson’s blood was found by detectives at Kop Cars, the garage where Mr Hampson worked in Little Preston Street, Hove, earlier this year.
Sussex Police officers were investigating the disappearance of Mr Hampson who had not been seen since dropping his daughter home from primary school in January.
His body has not been found.
Alexander and Bartup were remanded in custody until Monday 5 March 2012 when they are due to be tried at Lewes Crown Court.
