Brighton and Hove Albion’s 3rd round FA Cup replay against non-league Wrexham has been postponed.
The match was due to be played this evening (Tuesday 17 January) but has been rescheduled for 7.15pm tomorrow (Wednesday 18 January).
The postponement follows a pitch inspection this morning. A heavy frost coated part of the pitch that receives little sunshine at the Racecourse Ground rendering it unplayable.
Albion fans unable to make the rescheduled cup tie will be able to receive a refund, the club said.
S4C, the Welsh Channel 4, is due to broadcast the match live and it is also due to be screened live in Dick’s Bar in the North Stand of the Amex Stadium. The bar can hold 300 people.
The winners will host Newcastle United in the 4th round in a match to be played on Saturday 28 January and televised by ESPN.
Albion manager Gus Poyet said: “The pitch is rock hard but there is always that risk at this time of year.”
He said that warmer temperatures and rain were forecast for tomorrow enabling the fixture to be played in front of a sellout 9,000 crowd.
He praised the hospitality of Wrexham, currently top of the Conference, and predicted that the game would be tough.
The pitch would be a factor, possibly making it harder for Albion to play Poyet’s preferred passing game, but he added that there would be no excuses. The aim was to win.
