A man got up from a wheelchair and attacked another man in the centre of Brighton.
The man who had been in the wheelchair knocked his victim to the ground and punched him repeatedly.
The attack happened in St Peter’s Place, Brighton, and followed what Sussex Police described as an alteration between the two men.
Now detectives have asked for help identifying the victim of the attack.
They said that people who had been in the Hobgoblin pub in London Road came over and tended the victim’s bloody face.
The attacker made off.
Shortly afterwards a 36-year-old Brighton man was arrested near by on suspicion of assault. He has been bailed until Saturday 10 March while officers carry out further inquiries.
After making the arrest, officers went to the scene of the attack to speak to the victim but he had left.
Detective Constable Barrie Southerden said: “I have issued a CCTV image of the injured man in an effort to trace him and talk to him about the nasty assault he suffered.
“Members of the public rushed to his aide although I don’t know the extent of his injuries.
“I would like this injured man to come forward or anyone who knows him to get in touch.”
He was described as about 5ft tall, with fair coloured hair. He was wearing a grey coat.
DC Southerden added: “We are also keen to identify the woman who helped treat his wounds and any other witnesses to this assault.”
The incident happened at about 7.50pm on Tuesday 21 February.
