A 26-year old Brighton man was robbed of his mobile phone and suffered a broken leg after he went to help someone who appeared to be unwell.
The Good Samaritan was walking home along Viaduct Road between 3am and 3.20am on New Year’s Day when he saw another man apparently unwell or drunk in the road.
He went to help him back to the pavement but, as he did so, the man grabbed him and a second man attacked him from behind, kicking his legs.
The two men stole the victim’s phone and ran off up Viaduct Road into Ditchling Road.
Sussex Police said that the victim’s left leg was broken and he also suffered cuts and bruises. He was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton but has since been discharged.
The man in the road was described as white, about 5ft 10in tall, of thin build and in his mid twenties. He was wearing a grey hooded top.
The second man was described as white, in his twenties and with a skinhead appearance.
Detective Constable Tracey Dixon said: “We are appealing for drivers or pedestrians who were in the area in the early hours of New Year’s Day and who saw the incident or the two suspects running away from the scene to please call us on 101.”
Anyone with information can also call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
Poor chap, I hope he is going to be ok; best wishes for a speedy recovery.
I honestly despair of the behaviour of a few, mindless sub-human individuals. I hope that the Police catch them, and that the courts dispense extremely punitive sanction on these two thugs.
But of course, they won’t…
Seems usual robbery isn’t enough. The degenerate scum now feign injury
and rob anyone kind enough to offer help. I bet it’s the last time this
guy goes to someone’s aid. You have to just turn a blind eye to everything
in this day and this city, no matter what you “think” is happening.
