Brighton & Hove Albion 2 Newcastle United 0
The Albion have knocked Newcastle United out of the FA Cup in the 3rd round just as they did 30 years ago when the club went all the way to Wembley.
A superbly taken goal from Spaniard Andrea Orlandi in the first 20 minutes set the Albion on the road to victory.
It was Wayne Bridge who scampered after and kept in a loose ball, which he pulled back for Orlandi, who flicked the ball up and scored with the outside of his boot.
With David Lopez sprinting forward from right back, the Albion had the Toon on the back foot.
Sammy Ameobi tested Albion’s stand in keeper Casper Ankergren before the half was out. His brother Shola Ameobi was having his patience tested by Adam El-Abd with the Albion man all over the Newcastle forward and doing a great man-marking job.
Newcastle had a go at Albion in the second half but Ankergren’s most difficult moment was dealing with a deflection from Albion captain Gordon Greer.
Shola Ameobi was sent off after fouls, in quick succession, on Gary Dicker and David Lopez.
Former Magpie Kazenga LuaLua came on as a substitute for the Albion and showed the Newcastle defence what they were missing with his trickery, hitting the side with a powerful shot.
But it was David who found Will Hoskins with a superb pass with minutes left. And the back in favour striker slid the ball under Rob Elliot to put the Seagulls through to the 4th round for the third year in succession.
Calm down you beat a poor newcastle reserve team
