An 18-year-old university student was found on Brighton seafront with a serious head injury after a night out with friends.
Detectives are trying to find out how he ended up in a condition that was described as serious but not life threatening.
The Brighton University student was found by a member of the public lying on a pedestrian ramp between the lower promenade and King’s Road, opposite Buddies café. The ramp is by two clubs – The Tube and Coalition.
He was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton but has since been transferred to the Hurstwood Park Neurosciences Centre in Haywards Heath.
Sussex Police said that he was found just after 1am yesterday (Sunday 12 May).
Detective Constable Katy Hartley said: “We know that he had been spending the evening with friends at the nearby Shoosh Club, leaving sometime before 1am.
“How he came by his injury is not yet clear and at this stage there is no evidence that he has been assaulted but we need to establish what happened as quickly as possible.
“An important part of our inquiry is to find out if there are any witnesses.”
She asked anyone with information to call Sussex Police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
And she added: “We are particularly keen to speak to a woman who said she was an off-duty nurse and gave initial assistance at the scene before the man was taken to hospital.
“If you are that person, please call us as soon as possible.”
