Web and email users in Brighton and Hove are being offered advice on how to keep their electronic communications secure.
An event is being held with speakers and workshops at the weekend organised by Lighthouse and the Open Rights Group.
The event – the Brighton Crypto Party and Festival, aims to encourage critical thinking about technology, data, surveillance, censorship and privacy as well as offer practical tips and tools.
The event is free, no prior technical expertise or knowledge is assumed and children’s activities will also be provided.
The organisers said that the family-friendly day would include a variety of activities, focused around what can be done to secure online communications and resist mass surveillance.
It is being held at Lighthouse in Kensington Street, Brighton, from noon to 7pm on Sunday (1 December).
Anyone wanting to instal encryption software is asked to bring their laptop along.
And the organisers are encouraging anyone wanting to go along to register on Meetup.
