A 74-year-old pensioner from Brighton has been arrested for driving the wrong way along the A27 this morning.

Sussex Police said: “A car was stopped near Lewes after travelling up to five miles eastbound on the westbound carriageway on the A27 at Falmer from 6.40am on Wednesday 2 April.

“Police received numerous calls about the driver in a grey Vauxhall Antara vehicle after they had to swerve to avoid him.

“A police officer travelling on the westbound carriageway managed to get him to stop east of the Kingston roundabout.

“No one was injured. The 74-year-old driver from Brighton was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and then released on bail until (Thursday) 22 May.”
