Gang shoot Brighton man through his front door

The crime scene at Elmore Road after the shooting

A Brighton man is being treated for a gunshot wound after a gang went to his flat and shot at him through his front door last night.

Armed police rushed to Elmore Court Flats in Elmore Road after being alerted at 11.25pm last night.

Three men went to the 39-year-old man’s home, just a few hundred metres from Brighton’s John Street police station, and fired a single shot through the door.

The bullet hit him but did not cause life-threatening injuries.

The victim was taken by ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, where he is now being treated.

Armed officers were deployed but the suspects had fled.

Neighbour Sunny Choudhury said his family were alerted to the shooting when they saw flashing blue lights outside late last night.

He said: “I opened the door to see there’s lots of police cars.

“A neighbour told me somebody’s been shot with a shotgun through their letterbox.”

Mr Choudhury, who is a Labour candidate in this year’s local elections, said he was going to talk to the council and police as this is not the first time there has been trouble at the same block of flats.

He said: “We are extremely worried. It’s not only last night, there were incidents before – not shootings, but somebody was stabbed.

“People are very scared of going out at night.”

Detective Inspector Steve Warner, of Brighton CID, said: “We believe this to be an isolated incident and would seek to reassure people in the area that they should not be alarmed.

“Officers have been working throughout the night to follow up several leads which may help us identify those responsible for this attack ”

House-to-house enquiries are being conducted and anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity, vehicles or people in Elmore Road is asked to to email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or phone 101, quoting Operation Kenton.

In May last year, police launched an appeal after a 23-year-old man was stabbed in the head at an address in the same road.

Well then Dede, maybe consider moving? If it’s that bad then anywhere should be better shouldn’t it?
