Vegetarians lose appetite for Brighton UKIP candidate

Nigel Carter

Vegetarians appear to have lost any appetite that they may have had for UKIP. Vegfest has withdrawn an invitation to one of the party’s candidates, Nigel Carter, to address a political conference at the Brighton Centre tomorrow.

One of the organisers said that the decision had been made on security grounds after a deluge of complaints on social media, adding: “The scale of threats of disruption to the event are unprecedented.”

Mr Carter, who is standing in Brighton Pavilion at the general election in May, said that freedom of speech was being challenged by prejudiced people. He asked: “What are they scared of? What don’t they want you to find out?”

The ballot boxes will speak the loudest. Make sure you are registered to vote.

Seems fairly straightforward to me. We are against discrimination against animals. Therefore it follows that most of us should be against discrimination against human beings in varying forms. UKIP discriminate against humans in varying forms. Therefore we don’t want to listen to their views. It’s very simple really, Mr Carter.

That’s what I like these days – ‘freedom of expression’; ‘freedom of thought’; the ‘valuing of diversity’ – except of course if it differs from your own self-righteous bigoted views that you want to impose on others.

As well as being a vegetarian, could you possibly a fully signed up member of the greens?

UKIP *are* free to do all those things. This was an organisation that *invited* him to come and speak to them… then changed its mind. “Freedom of Speech” doesn’t mean freedom to gatecrash other people’s parties when you’re not wanted. AS YOU WELL KNOW #duh

Did you get a refund from the charm academy for your mastery of wit and repartee?

You’re not a fan of Derek & Clive then? More a Bernard Manning man?

Sorry to disappoint – I’m more of a Monty Python, Morecambe and Wise, Fawlty Towers, Mighty Boosh, Ronnie Barker sort of fan – hence my handle.

The ‘mastery of wit and repartee’ is from an old joke about twins at the circus.

You seem to feel free making your comments. Why can’t he? Double standards by the sound of it.

Thy didn’t advertise his presence very well – I had bought tickets and if I’d known I’d have wanted a refund!

Hate speech has no place in this country, especially not in tolerant Brighton – UKIP go back to where you came from!

Discrimination come is various forms…I wonder why people have decided to listen to the lib/lab/con/green propaganda which is clearly discriminatory and then chosen to discriminate against free speech.
Here’s a suggestion. Try listening to all sides before you discriminate.

The straightforward truth is that UKIP have a track record of harbouring racists and homophobes. People don’t like that Gerald. People don’t like racists and homophobes – especially in Brighton.

That is what UKIP shirks away from Gerald. That simple fact – they harbour racists and homophobes and say crazy crazy things.

I have never met Nigel Carter, know nothing about him and would not accuse him of personally being a racist or a homophobe BUT the party he represents (which is UKIP) has a track record of harbouring racists and homophobes.

He is free to say whatever he likes and canvass for any party (even one who harbours racists and homophobes) but he cannot be expected to be welcomed with open arms wherever he chooses to tread, simply because, his party has a track record of harbouring racists and homophobes.

He who shouts the loudest is the most guilty. And you’ve made it pretty clear about racists and homophobes Matt.

Goebhals would be proud of this. Repeat a lie often enough and people will believe it. Repeat a lie often enough and people will believe it. Repeat a lie often enough and people will believe it.

You have obviously never heard Mr Carter speak. Instead you are letting a 3rd party source tell you what to think.

You invite someone to address the group, then withdraw because of violent threats from vegetarian,s green members etc. These are the sort of people who invaded Nigel Farages local pub last week and terrorised his children. IE Dan Glass and co.

Why do these people not agree with free speech?

I have lived in so called tolerant Bighton for 40 years, im also Gay. Can I just tell these people who keep banging on about tolerant Brighton. Brighton was a hell of a lot more of a tolerent place before it became infested with left wing hippies, who do not allow people to hold other views. You are ruining this town, it is changing from a fun place into a miserable commune of ex Londoners from Islington. Who are closet capitalists, who sold London houses for a forrune and then settled here.

Please leave Brighton alone. How long before it is renamed Islington on sea?.
