Greens nominate candidates for all 54 seats in local elections in Brighton and Hove

Greens nominate candidates for all 54 seats in local elections in Brighton and Hove

The Green Party has nominated candidates for all 54 seats in the local elections in Brighton and Hove on Thursday 7 May.

Nominations closed at 4pm today (Thursday 9 April).

Council leader Jason Kitcat is standing down in Regency along with the other ward councillor, his wife Anya Kitcat.

Former council leader Bill Randall is retiring.

Another husband and wife team are stepping down – Rob Jarrett and Liz Wakefield. He is one of three councillors for Goldsmid while she is currently one of the three in Hanover and Elm Grove.

Christopher Hawtree is standing aside in Central Hove to contest the Hove seat in the House of Commons at the general election.

Ian Davey is retiring as one of three councillors in St Peter’s and North Laine, Sven Rufus is stepping down as the only Green among the three councillors in Hollingdean and Stanmer and Ruth Buckley is stepping down as one of the three councillors for Goldsmid.

In Preston Park two Green councillors are retiring – Mike Jones and former deputy leader of the council Amy Kennedy.

A former Labour councillor, Richard Stanton, is standing for the Greens in Queen’s Park in place of Ben Duncan who became an Independent after a row over comments on Twitter. Councillor Duncan is standing down.

Another former Labour councillor, Jack Hazelgrove, is standing in Hollingdean and Stanmer. He previously represented Moulsecoomb and Bevendean for his former party.

    Er, you spend much of your time in reviling councillors – and then you revile them for leaving to do other things. Perhaps you could reassure us that your time is fuller than it appears.
