Albion are through to the 2nd round of the Capital One League Cup. Kazenga LuaLua scored deep into stoppage time at the end of the match this evening (Tuesday 11 August).

Chris Hughton rang the changes. Niki Mäenpää, Glen Rea and Liam Rosenior made full debuts.

Danny Holla, Inigo Calderon, Rohan Ince and Jake Forster-Caskey were other changes to the team that beat Nottingham Forest on Friday (7 August).

The match was fairly uninspiring but came to life after 55 minutes. John White whipped in a cross which Ryan Leonard seemingly had to score from but he put his header wide for Southend.

Then Myles Weston forced a good save from Mäenpää in the Albion goal before Holla pushed a superb ball through to LuaLua who stroked it home.

Albion next take on Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday (15 August).
