Flats in Saltdean were evacuated when a fire started in one of them shortly before 8am this morning (Friday 21 August).

The fire service said: “East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were sent this morning to Saltdean following reports of a fire at a property.

“Four appliances were mobilised at 7.57am today (21 August) to the block of flats in Longridge Avenue.

“The fire was located on the third floor of the four-floor property and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets to tackle the fire.

“Everyone has now been accounted for and the incident scaled down.

“A positive pressure ventilation fan is being used to blow smoke from the building.”

There were reports of traffic delays on the A259 South Coast Road at the bottom of Longridge Avenue.
