Two men have been arrested in Brighton today after a series of raids along the south coast.
The South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU), assisted by Sussex Police, carried out warrants at a number of addresses in Sussex as part on an ongoing operation into fraud.
The warrants were carried out under Section 8 of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act, at the following four properties around 10am today:
- Air Street, Brighton, where a 22-year-old man was arrested
First Avenue, Hove
Adversane Road, Worthing
Charlotte Street, Brighton, where a 58-year-old man was arrested.
One male remains in custody whilst the second male, arrested at Charlotte Street, has been charged with possession of cannabis and bailed to court.
A large amount of cash was also seized at the Adversane Road address.
Det Ch Insp Alasdair Henry, heading the SEROCU investigation said: “Today’s action is just one example of the work the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit is doing to target organised crime within the south east, working with partner agencies to disrupt criminals living beyond their means.
“Together we aim to disrupt fraud in the region and anyone who is found to have committed offences will be detained by officers and dealt with robustly.
“Fraud comprises a wide range of different offences, but in essence it is about money that has been gained illegitimately. We have worked with various agencies today in order to disrupt those who look to benefit from this type of criminality and will continue to do so in the future.”
