Patients are preparing to hold a demo outside a meeting where the future of a group of doctors’ surgeries in Brighton and Hove is due to be decided.
They will march from the War Memorial in Old Steine, Brighton, to the Brighthelm Centre at the top of North Road where an NHS panel meeting will seal the fate of 11,000 patients.
Organisers Mitch Alexander and Linda Game said: “We will gather at the War Memorial at the Old Steine at 11.55am and then march up North Street and Queen’s Road until we reach the Brighthelm Centre.
“We will gather outside there until the start of the meeting at 1pm. We need to further highlight the community’s need to retain health care in Lower Bevendean.”
The NHS panel meeting will decide the future of four surgeries run by the Practice Group. It gave notice on its contract to run the four surgeries and the Homeless Practice in Morley Street, Brighton, in December after being told that its funding was being cut.
The four surgeries at risk of closure are The Practice Willow House, in Bevendean, The Practice Hangleton Manor, The Practice Whitehawk Road and The Practice North Street, in Boots.
