5 things we’re already thinking about Brighton & Hove Albion’s ‘winner takes all’ clash with Middlesbrough

1) How if the Albion lead at any point next Saturday at The Riverside will we cope. On the pitch, in the stands , those at the Amex beam back. The game will end at around 2:15pm. And if the Albion are winning then Christmas Day will seem nearer. Most will bury their heads in their hands or hide under a seat. Except David Stockdale he can’t. Not really.

2) Winner takes all could be a good omen for Albion. Abba won the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest at the Brighton Dome.

3) Even better than that. Jimmy Tarbuck who hosted an 1980’s quiz show of the same name , once played for Albion reserves!

4) The Albion’s match is the only one of any significance on the day. Will Channel 5 give it top billing at last? Will Jeff Stelling get over excited? Will Mark Clattenberg be the referee? It’s live on Sky….of course.

5) That the whole County of Sussex will be behind the Albion. As they embark of quite possibly their most important fixture of the last twenty years. Let’s not forgot. It will be exactly 33 years to the day 7th May 1983, that Albion lost their top fight status. After a 1-0 home defeat to Manchester City.
