Be ready for hard decisions, planners warn Brighton and Hove business leaders

From 3D printing to artificial intelligence via virtual and augmented reality, the Brighton and Hove Chamber of Commerce is offering glimpses and insights into the future of the workplace.

The Chamber said: “New technologies are changing the way we work. From letters to emails and typewriters to touchscreens, the workplace is evolving at an ever-increasing pace.

“Virtual and augmented reality, artificial intelligence, the internet of things and 3D printing – what impact will each one have on our working lives?

“Will they slot seamlessly into our workflow and empower us to do more? Or will they be a disruptive force that places new demands on a struggling workforce?

“These technologies are already being embraced by small businesses as well as large.

“Now you have a chance to try them out for yourself and discover how they could influence the way you do business.

“Hear from five expert speakers who believe that using the right tools can make us more insightful and productive.”

The speakers include Vodafone lead consultant Edward Hussey. His company is sponsoring the event.

Brighton University research boss Gulden Uchyigit will also take part. Dr Uchyigit is the group leader of the university’s Computational Intelligence Research Team on implementable artificial intelligence (AI) systems to solve real-world problems.

Another speaker is Jon Silver, director of JFDI Phoenix, who will have business examples of the internet of things and 3D printing for participants to experience themselves.

The event is targeted at people from the business community and is due to take place at Komedia, in Gardner Street, Brighton, on Wednesday 7 September from 4.45pm to 6.45pm. Tickets cost £15.

The Chamber added: “The robots are coming. How will you react? Join us to stay one step ahead of the invasion.”
