Bosses at the beleaguered i360 say that tests to determine why its glass pod keeps getting stuck are progressing well – but there is still no news on when the attraction will reopen.

The pod closed on Sunday night after almost 200 passengers got stuck inside for more than an hour – just three days after the same thing happened on Thursday evening, for two and a half hours.

Engineers have been trying to work out what is happening today and yesterday – and an i360 spokeswoman said this afternoon that checks are going well.

She said: “Tests and checks on the British Airways i360 pod are progressing well. We would like to thank our customers for their patience during this temporary closure and apologise for any inconvenience caused. We will be providing further updates in due course.”

Why don’t they put something on their website to keep people informed ? Their ‘latest news’ section only mentions the revised date for the opening night fireworks, which happened almost a month ago! Very unprofessional.

Bit surprised it’s got a safety certificate – from HSE – hearing that people were trapped in the pod at ground level – no manually operable exit ?

Hi Richard…totally agree…next time could have really serious consequences.
Also completely wrong for certain other papers to report the i360 is the first of its kind in the world…just look at the Seaworld Tower in Orlando, the Jurassic Skyline Tower in Weymouth and the now defunct Polo Tower at Morecambe, since taken down for safety reasons.

Compare and contrast the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth, which in the event of an incident, has two means of safe escape, the last being a series of 550 stairs down to ground level the Brighton i.sore has none of these, not even a proper loo!
